Terminology - Jerseys, Jackets and Snapbacks

What is a 'Authentic', 'Swingman' or 'Replica' jersey?

An 'authentic' jersey is a jersey made for fans which is the exact same material, stitching, numbers, etc that players wear in a game - the only difference is that players have "pro-cut' jersey which means they are tailored specifically to the players height. Authentics are the most expensive type of jersey. A swingman jersey is a style of jersey made for fans which has mesh material with breathable holes and the names and numbers are tackle-twill sewn-on. It is a more affordable option for fans and also has that authentic pro-cut look, hence the tag 'Length +2' under the jock tag. A replica jersey is a style of jersey made for fans which is of light mesh material with screen printed names & numbers. A cheaper option which appeals to many fans, especially in the vintage jerseys

What is a 'Snapback' hat?

A snapback hat has plastic adjustable snaps on the back of the hat. One size fits all.

What is a 'Jock Tag'

A jock tag is the tag on the lower left front which has the NBA logo, the size, the manufacturers logo, and on some jerseys the team logo. On certain adidas/reebok throwback jersey they have the players name and number.

What is a 'Hang Tag'?

A hang tag is the set of tags which hangs from the neck tags by a thin plastic thread

What is a 'vintage' jersey or jacket?

A vintage jersey/jacket is a sports jersey that is actually from the era of the player or team. These are not sold in stores anymore and are almost impossible to obtain as they have been out of production for many years. Vintage jerseys started in the 1980's made by Sand-Knit (Macgregor/Medallist), then in the 1990's Champion made jerseys from 1990-1999, Nike from 1997-2004, and Puma, Starter, also made NBA jerseys from 1997-1999. Vintage jackets started mostly in the 1970's and we stock various brands, mostly Starter, but also Chalk-Line, Locker Line, Felco, Apex One, Pro-Player, Jeff Hamilton, Stahl Urban, and Swingster.

What is a 'Throwback' also known as a 'Retro' or 'Rewind' jersey?

A throwback jersey is a sports jersey that replicates the jersey of a team or a player from the past. People love throwback jerseys because they remind the fan, regardless of age, of the golden age of their favorite time and team. Sports legends are honored with a throwback jersey for the time while they were at their playing prime.

Part of the appeal of the throwback jersey is its retro look. The jerseys are fashioned of the style, design and color scheme of the team during a particular time period. Their seemingly out-of-fashion look makes them just that - fashionable. The music industry has been partially responsible for the popularity of the throwback jersey; many recording artists have worn them on their videos, making them fresh and appealing to the crossover lovers of both music and sports.

What does tackle-twill mean?

Tackle Twill is a process where letters, numbers, logos and designs are cut from polyester or rayon twill fabric that is sewn to a garment. An adhesive backing tacks the material in place and the edges are sewn with a zig-zag or satin stitch. Tackle Twill is primarily used for athletic lettering and is commonly found on the uniforms of professional sports teams.
